Kabul: The 22 Navy SEALS killed in the Nato helicopter crash in eastern Afghanistan early Saturday morning were the ones who took part in the Abbottabad operation that killed Osama Bin Laden, a news agency reported.
Sources said that seven Afghan National Army soldiers were also killed in the crash. Those killed included three air force controllers, a spy dog and its trainer.
It is not clear how the crash happened but the Taliban have claimed they shot the helicopter down.
This is one of the biggest single-day losses for foreign forces in Afghanistan since 2001.
An Afghan official said a coalition helicopter crashed when that was firing on insurgents. He added that it was yet not clear if that happened due to insurgent firing.
