Karachi: Karachi remained shut down on Saturday in response to a strike call given by Sindhi nationalist parties and supported by the Awami National Party. Television channels reported conflicting number of deaths in the city. A television channel said two were killed, but another reported that 10 people had been killed.
Two people were hurt in an attack on a rally of Sindhi nationalist parties near Aladin Park.
Almost all major markets of the city remained shut, fearing arson attacks. Small markets in residential areas remained open, however.
Workers of nationalist parties had indulged in violence late Friday evening and early Saturday morning, which forced traders to keep their shutters down.
Buses, minibuses and coaches remained off roads. Rickshwas were, however, available.
