Karachi: As many as 1,418 students were awarded degrees in their relevant disciplines at the 21st convocation of the NED University of Engineering and Technology, held at the main campus of the varsity on Thursday.
Engineer Abul Kalam, Vice Chancellor NED, presided over the convocation due to unavailability of the chancellor Sindh governor. Finance Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah was the chief guest at the ceremony.
Besides Pro Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Shaibzada Farooq Ahmed Rafeeqi and other faculty members, a larger number of student and their parents were also present on the occasion.
At the convocation, 1, 289 students were awarded with Bachelor degrees, while 127 with Masters degrees. 20 highest graders were also awarded gold medals and merit certificates.
Moreover, Dr Arjmnend Masood, Associate Professor Civil Engineering Department and Dr Sadia Muniza Faraz, Assistant Professor Electronic Engineering Department were conferred with PhD degrees.
Addressing the gathering, Murad congratulated the graduating students and advised them to prove the worth of degree in their practical lives.
In his address, VC NED, Engineer Abul Kalam congratulated the passing out students. He said that the number of registration at NED was 3,014 in 1997-99, while in 2012-13, the number increased up to 8,443, which is great success that academy had achieved.
