The app or feature KNOX basically keeps the information of a user private and secure, making it an effective tool for Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) strategy for companies.
“Easily accessible via an icon on the home screen, the KNOX container presents to users a variety of enterprise applications in a secure environment including email, browser, contacts, calendars, file sharing, collaboration, CRM and business intelligence applications,” SamMobile reported.
The application will be available on Samsung devices from Quarter 2 of 2013 which means that Galaxy S4 and upcoming devices will have the feature too.
KNOX provides Android eco-system the enterprise validated security and integration with no change to the source code making it a friendly tool for developers.
At present BlackBerry, iOS devices and now Windows phone are considered to be the major players for enterprise based smratphones due to their relatively secure eco-system. Android devices are never considered by enterprises due to their perceived image of being an open and non-secure for business and professional use.
By introducing KNOX, Samsung could gain a distinct place in Enterprise-based devices, a major source revenue for mobile manufacturers.
