The bill, tabled by the Federal Law Minister Farooq H Naek, amends the Anti-Terrorism Act‚ 1997.
Once signed by President Asif Ali Zardari, the bill will become an act.
The bill narrows the definition of terrorism, making it more precise. The definition in Pakistan’s ATA 1997 act is believed to be ‘general’ and has been criticised by experts.
Under the bill, suspects accused of terrorism will be interrogated by an inspector-level office, while audio-video recordings, phone recordings and email could be used as evidence.
