Islamabad: Pakistan’s Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry has remarked that how the Sindh Local Government Ordinance (SLGO), 1979 could be revived as it had been cancelled.
He was hearing a petition pertaining to the Sindh Local Government Act here in Islamabad on Thursday.
During the hearing, the CJ remarked that the revival of the law had raised few debatable constitutional questions. “The act can only be restored in the absence of new law.”
Sindh’s additional advocate general told the court that the chief minister had said the law was annulled over the observation of the court.
On this situation, the court issued notice to the attorney general for argument over Article 140 and 264 and adjourned the hearing of the case for three weeks.
