Bloemfontein: Pakistani cricket team was outclassed in the first one day international against South Africa and was beaten by 125 runs at OUTsurance Oval, Bloemfontein, South Africa, here on Sunday.
South Africa set a huge target of 316 runs for the loss of four wickets. Colin Ingram (105) was the most successful batsmen for the Proteas as he completed his second ton against Pakistan. De Villiers 65, Amla 43, Behardien 34 and Smith’s 30 also helped the hosts to set a huge target.
Pakistani bowlers failed to restrict their opponents and only took four wickets in the match. Saeed Ajmal took two wickets while Hafeez and Junaid Khan shared one wicket only.
In response to a target of 315 runs, the Pakistani team took a good start with Hafeez and Jamshed getting a partnership of above 40 runs in quick succession but after the fall of Jamshed at 25, the wickets started to fall in quick successions.
Misbahul Haq 38, was the leading run-scorer for the green shirts accompanied by Shahid Afridi’s quick 34 runs in 16 balls. Younus 30, Hafeez 25 were the other batsmen who crossed 20’s while the opthers fail to do so.
The Proteas bowler did not give any chance to their opponents to play freely in order to score 316 runs in 50 overs. Kleinveldt was the pick of the bowler for his team and took four wickets in the match followed by McLaren 3, while Tsotsobe and Abbot shared one wicket each.
