Peshawar: University of Peshawar has secured second position in the “All Pakistan Universities Radio Productions on ‘Gender based violence’ Award” after its ‘Feature’ being declared best in a competition, organized by Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation (PBC) Lahore in collaboration with the USAID and Aurat Foundation.
The feature was based on the issue of Early Marriages (Child marriages) and was produced by the team of Campus Radio Station at the Department of Journalism & Mass Communication (JMC), UoP.
The team comprising of Izhar Ullah (leader), Usman Khan, Abid Ullah and Khalida Niaz alongwith its supervisor Bakht Zaman Yousafzay (Lecturer/Executive Producer) was awarded with the special appreciation shield, certificates and cash prize in a ceremony held at Lahore. Prominent Columnist, broadcaster, dramatist and intellectual Munnu Bhai was chief guest on the occasion, while the ceremony was also addressed by Sajid Hussain Durrani, Station Director PBC Lahore and other media men.
It is important to mention that 30 universities from all over the country submitted 70 entries on Gender based violence, in six different categories which included documentary, feature, investigative report, creative work, public service message and news report, wherein University of Peshawar was declared best in the feature production.
Meanwhile a special function was held at Campus Radio Station, University of Peshawar to celebrate the achievement. Professor Dr. Shahjehan Sayed, Chairman JMC while addressing as chief guest of the occasion has congratulated the students for their success and hoped that they will continue to work with same zeal and enthusiasm.
He urged upon the students to take full advantage of the broadcasting facilities being provide to them at the department adding that future of the media now mainly belongs to radio as this industry is resurfacing since last few years.
He said that the department of JMC during the last 25 years and the Campus Radio Station since 2003 has contributed hundreds of skilled journalists to the media market of the country. Dr. Shahjehan went on to say that besides the national media, a decent number of its graduates are attached with international media organization like Deutsche Well, Voice of America, Radio Liberty and BBC, in and abroad
