Srinagar: At least five policemen and two attackers were killed in an alleged suicide attack near Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) camp in the Bemina area of Srinagar in Jammu & Kashmir on Wednesday, reports say.
The News Tribe correspondent Sardar Attiq Sadozai has reported that militants sneaked inside the camp and opened indiscriminate firing on the security forces. “A public school is also located near the site.”
Two militants have been shot dead by the security forces in the ensuing firing. Some CRPF personnel and civilians have also sustained severe injuries in the incident.
Indian security forces have cordoned off the entire area to avoid any further casualty.
It is believed to be a suicide attack as the militants first targeted the CRPF camp and hurled grenades on the security forces and then sneaked inside the public school, which was closed due to the shutdown called by the Kashmiri separatist leaders today.
Bemina area is important as it houses several vital installations belonging to the CRPF, Indian Army and the state government.
