Talking to the media in the country’s capital Islamabad, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Qamar Zaman Kaira said that given the background of both nominees, they could not do justice with the PPP.
Both names were proposed by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).
Kaira said that President Asif Ali Zardari was wrongly implicated in the murder of Justice Zahid’s brother-in-law so Mr Zahid could not qualify for the post.
The minister also questioned Palejo’s eligibility, saying that he, along with his son Ayaz Palejo, has made an alliance against the PPP in the polls.
Kaira said that the Election Commission of Pakistan should scrutinise the relationships of both nominees with the PPP before reaching any decision.
Meanwhile, senior journalist Hamid Mir censured Kaira for his remarks about Justice Zahid’s past:
“cat is out of bag.Establishment’s spokesperson Kaira expressed his hatred for Nasir Aslam Zahid why he is silent over Hafiz Sheikh’s past?” Mir posted on Twitter.
