PPP’s senior leader Nabeel Gabol joins MQM

Karachi: In what appeared to be a major shock to Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), senior politician Sardar Nabeel Gabol on Sunday officially announced to join Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) here in Karachi.

Addressing a press conference here at Nine-Zero, the MQM’s head office, Gabol said that the PPP was no longer the party of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto and he was leaving the party after a tenure of 25 years.

He said that his differences emerged after his party disregarded Lyari, his constituency. He added that it was better for him to leave the PPP to join any other party.

He revealed that many parties had offered him to join them but he chose the MQM because of true leadership qualities of Altaf Hussain and supported him on several occasions.

Gabol said that he always felt Nine Zero as his second home.

He said that the MQM had supported him when he failed to lodge an FIR of Shahzeb Khan, his close relative.

Gabol said that his task with the MQM would be to bridge differences and work towards establishing brotherhood between different ethnicities.

He said that current PPP was not a Benazir Bhutto’s, the slain PPP chairperson, party.

MQM leader Farooq Sattar welcomed Gabol to the party and said his inclusion would help further the vision of Altaf Hussain across Pakistan and especially in Sindh.

On the other hand, PPP leader Syeda Shehla Raza termed his party as sea and said that Gabol’s quitting was not a big thing. She said that Gabol and the MQM have different mindsets.

“Lyari is a Larkana of PPP in Karachi and it will always remain as its stronghold.
