Islamabad: The Supreme Court of Pakistan has remarked that Punjab Police had failed to probe into the Joseph Colony tragedy thoroughly in which a mob burnt and vandalised more than 100 houses of Christian community over blasphemy allegations.
A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry was hearing the suo motu notice of the incident.
The apex court adjourned the hearing till March 25 after CCPO Lahore Muhammad Amlish assured the court he would thoroughly investigate the case.
The court had earlier rejected a report prepared by the Punjab government on the incident.
The Chief Justice remarked it seemed that investigations should also be done by courts.
He added that it was duty of the police to protect lives and properties of people and they had badly failed to give protection the minority community.
