BHC verdict over appointment of Balochistan opposition leader challenged in SC

Supreme Court of Pakistan

Quetta: The Balochistan High Court (BHC) verdict over the provincial assembly’s opposition leader has been challenged in the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

A divisional bench of the Balochistan High Court (BHC) rejected an earlier notification by Speaker Balochistan Assembly Matiullah Agha regarding the appointment of Maulana Wasay of the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) and restored Nawabzada Tariq Magsi as the opposition leader in the provincial assembly.

A petitioner, challenging the BHC verdict, has pleaded the apex court that Maulana Wasay should be appointed as speaker of the provincial assembly.

Earlier on Wednesday, JUI-F’s provincial Amir Senator Maulana Muhammad Khan Sherani had said that his party would challenge the BHC decision.

He said that it was their constitutional right to move the apex court over the issue.
