Petition challenging appointment of Balochistan opposition leader withdrawn

Islamabad: The Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) on Friday withdrawn writ petition filed in the Supreme Court of Pakistan, challenging the Balochistan High Court (BHC) verdict over the provincial assembly’s opposition leader.

During the hearing of the petition, Justice Tasaduq Jilani remarked that it was good that the issue had been resolved gracefully.

A divisional bench of the Balochistan High Court (BHC) had rejected an earlier notification by Speaker Balochistan Assembly Matiullah Agha regarding the appointment of Maulana Wasay of the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) and restored Nawabzada Tariq Magsi as the opposition leader in the provincial assembly.

The petitioner, challenging the BHC verdict, had pleaded the apex court that Maulana Wasay should be appointed as speaker of the provincial assembly.
