ISLAMABAD: Chief cleric of Lal Masjid Maulana Abdul Aziz filed a petition in the Supreme Court of Pakistan against former dictator Pervez Musharraf, seeking his name to be put on Exit Control List (ECL).
The cleric stated in the petition that Musharraf name should be put on the ECL because the Lal Masjid operation, in which hundreds of students were killed, was conducted on his orders.
The military launched a crackdown on the mosque in July 2007 in the country’s capital Islamabad. Hundreds of students and several army soldiers were killed in the bloody incident.
The operation came as the mosque, with Abdul Aziz leading several armed seminary students, had announced the establishment of a parallel judicial system, vowing to enforce Islamic Shariah in the city.
