Lahore: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Rana Sanaullah on Tuesday announced to appoint Najam Sethi, an anchor of Geo News, as the interim chief minister of the Punjab province.
Speaking to media in Lahore, Sanaullah said that the decision was made after consultations with the PML-N leadership.
“The leadership of PML-N has always worked for principles,” he said adding that all decisions were made with the consultation of opposition parties.
“Najam Sethi is an unbiased person and he can perform his duties well,” he added.
It is to be mentioned here that a six member parliamentary committee comprising three members each from the government and opposition side has been discussing four names for the post of caretaker CM for the last couple of days.
Rana Sanaullah, Mian Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman and Malik Iqbal Channar had been representing the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz while the opposition side was represented by Shaukat Basra, Chaudhry Zaheeruddin and Zulfiqar Gondal in the commitee formed under article 224-A.
The PML-N proposed names of Justice (retd) Amir Raza Khan and former bureaucrat Khuwaja Zaheer while the opposition suggested names of Najam Sethi, senior journalist and political commentator, and Justice (retd) Zahid Hussain.
Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) leader Chaudhry Zaheer also congratulated Sethi for his appointment as the interim chief minister.
He further hoped that Najam Sethi would perform his duties for the holding of free and fair elections in the province.
