WASHINGTON: Barbara Walters, a prominent US TV icon, will be announcing her retirement next year in the coming weeks and is likely to make it on ABC’s talk show “The View”, various media reports said.
Showbiz trade journal The Hollywood Reporter reported citing sources that Walters, 84, was poised to retire in May 2014, ending an era of her career spanning more than half a century.
Walters joined ABC News in 1976 after a long stint as co-host of the NBC breakfast show “Today”.
On March 20, Walters told her 1.167 million Twitter followers that “The View” would return April 1 after a spring hiatus with “great guests to come — that’s no joke!”
In 1976, she became the first woman ever to anchor a US evening network newscast.
