ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s National Assembly and Provincial Assembly of Punjab is going to elect speaker and deputy speaker on Monday (today) during their sessions in Islamabad and Lahore.
Four political parties had fielded their candidates for the posts of National Assembly speaker and deputy speaker including Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N), Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf (PTI), Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM).
However, PPP has decided to withdrew in NA’s election in favour of PML-N.
The nominations for the National Assembly’s posts of speaker and deputy speaker, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and Murtaza Javed Abbasi from PML-N, Shaharyar Afridi and Munazza Hassan from PTI, S.A. Iqbal Qadri and Kishwer Zehra from MQM while Umerkot Nawab Yousuf Talpur and Ghulam Rasool Koreja from PPP had withdrew.
While in Punjab Assembly, two political parties will contest for speaker and deputy speaker posts include Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf (PTI).
The nominations for the Punjab Assembly’s posts of speaker and deputy speaker, Rana Muhammad Iqbal and Sher Ali Gorchani, PTI Raja Rashid Hafeez of PTI and giving an opportunity to Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) to put forward its nominee Waqas Moakkal for deputy speaker post.
