Both of the companies have a partnership worth billion, but both have locked horn over ‘patent’ fight for last one year or so. Following the legal fight, Apple has reduced taking displays from Samsung and had switched to AU Optronics.
But not it seems Apple has once again in a mood to build long term relationship with Samsung Display, the part of Samsung which deals with displays of devices.
“Samsung Display is to supply 7.9-inch retina display with 2048×1536 resolution and 9.7-inch narrow bezel retina display to Apple from the 3rd and 4th quarters, respectively,” PatentlyApple has reported Korea IT News.
The orders, as their specification tells, will be used for iPad Mini 2 and iPad 5 respectively, for which Apple is expected to release these devices in third quarter.
“Apple is to launch the iPad Mini 2 with a resolution upgraded to QXGA quality in the 3rd quarter, and is also preparing iPad 5 with a narrow bezel for enhanced recognition degree,” the site further stated.
The reported return of Apple to Samsung for displays of its devices is caused by required ‘yield’ and ‘quality problems’ with Sharp and AUO.
