Washington: Sri Lanka on Monday defeated the defending champions Australia in do-or die match of International Cricket Council (ICC) Champions Trophy to qualify for the semi-finals played at The Oval.
Australia fails to register even a single victory in this tournament except of drawn match against New Zealand due to rain.
Australia all out on 233 runs chasing down 254 runs total against Sri Lanka. Australia top order collapse as Aussies lose their top four wickets at the score of 69 runs. Adam Voges showed resistance on the crease. After making 49 runs he became the victim of Rangana Herath. While Mathew Wade’s 32 and Glen Maxwell’s 31 felt short to take Australia home. Aussies were all out on 233 runs.

Earlier Australia won the toss and elected to field first. Sri Lanka after losing two wickets early manages to recover well. Sri Lankan star batsmen Mahela Jaywardene complete its 11000 runs in One Day Internationals (ODI) as he struck unbeaten 84 runs of facing 81 balls. While Lahuri Thirimanne scored a brilliant half century. He made 57 runs to guide Sri Lanka a respectable total of 253 runs losing 8 wickets.

With this victory over Aussies, Sri Lanka have qualified for semi-final. South Africa, England and India already qualified for Semi final.
Host England will take on South Africa in first semi final while Sri Lanka will play against undefeated team of the tornament India in second semi final.
