MARDAN: At least 20 persons killed including Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) member provincial assembly Imran Khan Mohmand and at least 60 person severely injured on Tuesday and by furious suicide bombing in Mardan city of Pakistan’ Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
The suicide bomber exploded him in Shergarh area of Mardan city where people were offering funeral prayer of a petrol pump’s owner Haji Abdullah while Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazal (JUI-F) was leading the prayer.
The injured persons were initially shifted by the local residents to the Takht Bhai hospital, situated 15 km from Mardan on Swat Malakand road, but due to lack of treatment facilities all injured were taken to Mardan hospital. During this period, at least 7 injured have lost their lives.
According to Mardan Hospital sources, the injured persons were referred to Lady Reading Hospital Peshwar as several injured were in critical condition. During this shifting process, 13 persons died because of treatment unavailability.
Rescue teams have reached the affected area, shifting the dead bodies and injured people to District Headquarter (DHQ) Hospital while the governmental authorities have imposed emergency in the hospital.
According to police sources, four persons have lost their lives when the rescue team was taking them to the hospital. Rescue teams are facing problems in shifting injured to hospital due to the shortage of ambulances.
Some sources claimed that the petrol owner’s son has also been injured in the deadly attack.
Information Minister of KPK province Shaukat Yousafzai has confirmed the death of 20 person while the genre of attack is suicide. Moreover, no militant group have claimed the attack till yet.
It is pertinent to note, Imran Khan Mohmand was elected on PK-27 constituency of Mardan as independent candidate and further joined the PTI.
Heavy contingents of security forces have cordoned off the affected area.
