In weekly briefing, Foreign office spokesperson Aizaz Ahmed Chaudhry confirms Pakistan’s role in opening of Taliban Office in Doha as part of its larger process of reconciliation in Afghanistan.
“Pakistan has been supportive of an all inclusive intra-Afghan dialogue and it is in that spirit that it extended support to the Doha process,” he further said.
“The process of reconciliation will help bring the war to an end and also lead to lasting peace in Afghanistan,” Radio Pakistan quoted him saying.
Aizaz revealed that Pakistan had released 26 Taliban prisoners on request of Afghan High Peace Council to let them join peace process.
He further said that Pakistan was ready to consider all steps and efforts that could further the reconciliation in Afghanistan.
Telling the nature of Taliban’s Doha office, the spokesperson made it clear that the country had just facilitated the opening and rest of the thing swung among Qatar, Taliban and United States.
