ISLAMABAD: With masses are worried over rising bills of electricity, federal minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif says that burden of hike in electricity price will be transferred to privileged class.
“The basic cause of increase in power tariff is the expensive electricity from Independent Power Producers,” he said addressing a conference on Power Sector Reforms.
“The power crisis has resulted in loss of 1000 billion rupees to the country during the last five years.”
Khawaja Asif was of the view that poor masses would be saved from burden of hike in electricity prices.
At present the power-needy country is producing 51 percent of its electricity through petroleum, an expensive mood of power generation.
“The government is striving hard to increase ratio of hydro and coal power generation, which are cheaper as compared to oil generated power.”
