LONDON: It was one of the 3DS’s first games, and two years on the submarine title “Steel Diver” is at the vanguard of Nintendo’s move into free-to-play gaming.
The news comes from IGN, which had spoken to Nintendo designer Shigeru Miyamoto during the Electronic Entertainment Expo.
It’ll be a reworked version of “Steel Diver,” which was first shown to the public in 2004 as a demonstration of the Nintendo DS’s features.
“There is something we’re doing with the Steel Diver idea that I think is going to open things up with that game… It’s going to be very fun. We’re exploring from a perspective of where we can take that from a multiplayer standpoint — it’s going to have this four-player battle mode that I think is going to be very interesting” was the quote.
On June 13, during E3, Nintendo had told investors that it was working on a free-to-play game. Only a week later, and an update for the 3DS’s free StreetPass games introduced four extra, paid-for activities.
