KARACHI: At least nine people including security officials were killed and 15 others injured in a remote-controlled bomb targeting Sindh High Court (SHC) judge Justice Maqbool Baqar’s convoy in Karachi on Wednesday morning.
The bomb exploded in the metropolis’ Burns Road area when the judge alongwith his squad was on a way to his office. “10 people including six policemen and a Rangers’ official were killed and 16 others injured,” officials said and added that Justice Baqar was also among the wounded but his condition was out of danger.
Due to the blast, a motorcycle and a police van were completely destroyed while nearby building and a mosque damaged slightly.
Rescue teams rushed at the site and shifted the injured to Civil Hospital while the judge was moved to a private hospital. Hospital sources say the judge’s condition is stable and he is out of any danger.
Heavy contingents of security forces have been deployed in the area and investigations are beign carried out.
Moreover, the Bomb Disposal Squad, which reached at the location, said after initial investigations the bomb was planted in the motorcycle and exploded through remote controlled device. They further said that around six to eight kilogramme explosives were used in the attack.
