KARACHI: At least 2 women died and 2 were severely injured in stampede during ration distribution between impoverished families in Karachi on Monday.
The incident took place in Gulshan-e-Iqbal area near a wedding hall at Nipa round about during ration distribution event amongst needy people by the charitable donation given by a Pakistani altruist.
However, stampede occurred during the distribution due to some mismanagement which resulted injuring of several women in the incident.
Police and rescue teams reached the location and shifted the injured women to the nearby hospital but 2 women died while transfer due to severe injuries.
Eyewitnesses told TNT representative, women were queued for receiving donations but stampede occurred when the organisers open up gate of the hall.
According to SSP East Imran Shoukat, the organisers managed to distribute ration between 400 women but the quantity reached above 4000, moreover, personnel of the charity event did not informed the police officials.
