RIYADH: Saudi Arabia authorities has brought an innovative idea for comforting the travellers by introducing a smartphones’ app ‘Smart Taxi’ in Jeddah, the port city near Mecca.
Chairman of the Public Fares Committee at the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Muhammad Bejad Al-Wahtan, said that the app will be launched online soon and anyone could download it on smartphones, Arab News reported.
Al-Wahtan detailed that the online service, Smart Taxi and GPS facility, will be available on subscription but it is not mandatory for the citizens and residents of the port city.
How ‘Smart Taxi’ facilitate the consumers?
Users will be informed by the nearest available taxi in the area where they are present via usage of the app while it also provide the specific taxi driver information.
The taxi driver will be able to identify the customers’ location after receiving a text message from them as well as provide a time frame to reach to them.
‘Smart Taxi’ Website:
The chairman said that ‘Smart Taxi’ website has been created for the purposes of easing the taxi travellers and would be activated after launching of the service within 6 months.
The official claimed that a meeting was held with limousine firms in Jeddah to float the idea and the innovation project is largely welcomed by the employers and taxi drivers.
He said prices would be the same as regular cabs and a meter will be present inside the cabs which would add advantage to the consumers of being able to call for a taxi.
