ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan’s Minister for Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development informed the upper house that the federal government is currently in talks with higher authorities of Italy, Ecuador and Ukraine for export of manpower.
Minister for Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development Pir Syed Sadaruddin Shah Rashidi told the house during question hour that the government is exploring employment opportunities for its skilled and unskilled workers abroad and MOUs in this regard have already been signed with Qatar and Libya.
He said over 2.6 million people went abroad for employment through overseas employment promoters or on self arrangement during the last five and a half years.
Minister of State for Health Services Saira Afzal Tarar said due process is followed in registration of drugs and medicines. She said a committee has been constituted which will work in collaboration with pharmaceutical companies to curb the menace of fake and counterfeit medicines. A quality cell has also been established in the drug regulatory authority to ensure quality of medicines. We also want to bring a solid policy within six months or one year on quality of medicines.
Minister of State for Education and Training Baligur Rehman informed the house that the higher education commission has awarded 2528 scholarships from the public sector development program during the last five years. Out of these, 2121 scholarships were awarded to male scholars and 407 to female. He said the higher education commission has put in place a transparent mechanism to award the scholarships.
Minister of State for Education and Training Baligur Rehman said the government is giving top priority to the education sector and funds of higher education commission have phenomenally been increased.
He said under Prime Minister’s new initiatives for the youth, special preference will be given to the areas of rural Sindh, Southern Punjab, Balochistan and FATA.
Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Sheikh Aftab assured that work on Quetta-Chaman highway will be completed by 2015. He said Chaman bypass and 2.8 kilometer dual carriageway will be financed under USAID program.
Journalists staged a walk out from press gallery over attack on the office of a media house in Karachi yesterday.
Minister for Information and Broadcasting Pervaiz Rashid said the federal government will fulfill its responsibility regarding protection of journalists. However law and order is a provincial subject and the provincial government will have to fulfill its responsibility in this regard.
Leader of Opposition Aitzaz Ahsan said the government should take steps to curb such kind of incidents and apprehend the culprits.
Three Ordinances were laid before the house on Tuesday. These are: Anti Terrorism (Amendment) Ordinance 2013 (Ordinance No. VII of 2013), Anti terrorism (Amendment) Ordinance 2013 (Ordinance No VIII of 2013) and Protection of Pakistan Ordinance 2013.
The ordinances were moved by Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Shaikh Aftab Ahmad.
