PESHAWAR: Unknown miscreants opened fire on polio campaigners on Friday evening in Khyber Agency, resulted killing of one worker.
Unknown terrorists suddenly opened fire on anti-polio worker busy in their campaign in Ghundi area of Jamrud tehsil located in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) region of Pakistan, security sources said.
The sources added that the assailants called the polio campaigner outside a home and killed him via firing.
The dead body of the deceased person was shifted to the local hospital immediately.
Heavy contingents of security forces reached the location and started search operation to find out of responsible.
It is pertinent to know that polio teams were faced several same genre of attacks previously in different areas of Pakistan.
Earlier, two policemen performing a security duty with anti-polio campaigners was gunned down in Swabi district of the province today.
Pakistan is one of only three countries where polio remains endemic, along with Afghanistan and Nigeria, but efforts to tackle the highly infectious crippling disease have been hampered over the years by local suspicion.
