Pakistan government says that funds will be raised for Lowari Tunnel project in a bid to expedite works on it.
The Lowari Tunnel is an 8.75 km long under-construction road tunnel situated in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan connecting Dir and Chitral Valley. But the project is facing a delay due to red tap-ism of the officials.
Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Shaikh Aftab says that funds for construction of Lowari Tunnel project will be enhanced for its completion as quickly as possible.
He was responding to the queries from members Iftikharuddin and others in National Assembly’s session today.
The tunnel project is significant is the sense that it will open up a new avenue of trade with Central Asian states via Afghanistan. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has also reviewed the project in a recent meeting with the National Highway Authority.
“The design of the Lowari Tunnel project was changed in 2009-10 in order to facilitate the passage of heavy traffic from the 8.5 kilometer long tunnel,” the minister further said.
