CHITTAGONG: English batsman Alex Hales hit a quick century off 60 balls to brought England a six wicket win over Sri Lankan tigers in an ICC World Twenty 20 match here at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhry stadium.
It was again Alex who hit a last six to bring an end to the match when England needed 6 runs in 5 balls.
Alex Hales’ century for which he hit 11 fours and 6 sixes is the first in Twenty 20 World Cup.
He spared only 64 runs to make 116 runs.
Earlier, England won the toss and chose to field first.
Sri Lanka made 189 runs for the loss of four wickets with the help of a Dilshan’s 55 and Jayawardene’s 89 runs.
England’s Dernbach took 2 wickets for 42 runs.
When England started their innings, they suffered an early setback when opener Lumb was dismissed by Lankan pacer Kulasekara without making a run.
Kulasekara took all 4 wickets by conceding 32 runs.
On the other end, Alex Hales kept the board ticking on an alarming rate by hitting frequent boundaries while it Eoin Morgan helped Alex bring back England into this group 1 match by scoring a sensible 57 off 73 balls.
Alex Hales was given “Man of the Match” award.
