ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s former Interior Minister Rehman Malik on Tuesday has said that the incumbent government should not have released Tehrik-i-Taliban (TTP) prisoners who were convicted in different cases.
He was talking to media after “PPP Overseas Pakistanis Committee” meeting.
He said the government should be cautious while negotiating with outlawed TTP.
Rehman Malik warned that, “Taliban cannot be trusted because they are not reliable. The government should not believe the TTP that they will honor their commitments.”
He said that PPP initially supported the reconciliation process between the government and the TTP but we were always against the release of the TTP prisoners.
He also urged the government to demand the release of former Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani’s son Ali Haider Gilani and slain Punjab Governor Salman Taseer’s son Shahbaz Taseer.
It should be kept in mind that the government has recently released several Taliban prisoners and announced that it will soon release more Taliban inmates.
In addition, the PPP Overseas Pakistanis committee decided at the meeting that the committee members will visit various countries to establish better relationship with angry workers.
For this purpose, PPP will launch a website that will be inaugurated by party leader Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
The committee has requested overseas Pakistanis to unite under the banner of the Pakistan Peoples Party.
