KARACHI: At least two persons were killed and two more received serious injuries following firing outside a mosque in densely-populated Gulshan-e-Iqbal area of Karachi on Saturday.
Police sources told TheNewsTribe representative that the persons were raising charity funds outside the mosque situated in 13-D neighbourhood of Gulshan-e-Iqbal area of the metropolis on Saturday night.
The deceased persons were identified as Molana Ehtisham and Qari Hafeez, while the two injured persons include Molana Haroon and one another in the incident.
Molana Ehtisham was reportedly performing his duties as ‘Imam Masjid’ of the mosque while Qari Hafeez was ‘Moazzan’, the person who offers Adhan before Muslim prayers offered five times a day.
According to police, unknown assailants opened heavy fire on the persons raising charity funds outside the mosque while two of the injured persons succumbed to injuries while being shifted to nearby hospital.
The gunmen fled from the location easily, whereas, the incident created stampede situation in the area under intense fear amongst the locals.
Heavy contingents of law enforcement agencies were deployed in the area and security measures were also increased after the incident.
