ISLAMABAD – The government of Pakistan and India exchanged the list of prisoners in each other’s custody on Wednesday.
The Ministery of Forgin Affairs handed over a list of prisoners to the High Commission of India in Pakistan. A list of 403 Indian prisoners including 48 civil and 355 fishermen handed over according to the Agreement on Consular Access signed by Pakistan and India on May 21, 2008.
According to this agreement both countries bound to exchange the list of prisoners logged in each other’s respective prisons twice in a year, on January 1 and July 1.
Government of India also handed over a similar list of 278 Pakistani prisoners including 251 civil and 27 fishermen to the the High Commission for Pakistan in New Dehli, India.
Foreign Office spokesperson, Tasneem Aslam, confirmed that India also handed over the list of prisoners loged in Indian jails.
