PLLEKELE – Sri Lankan team will play the third and the last Test match of the three match Test series against Pakistan without legendary batsman Kummar Sangakkara.
Sangakkara informed the Sri Lankan Cricket Board about his unavailability. Upul Tharanga will replace Kumar Sangakkara in the third Test match staring Friday in Pallekele.
Tharanga played his last Test match against Pakistan, in Colombo last year. He scored 92 and 45 in that match. Upul Tharanga was dropped by the selection committee for the New Zealand tour last year.
Earlier, Kumar Sangakkara publicly announced his retirement from international cricket after the second Test against India.
The announcement came in an especial press conference by star batsman conducted after the third day’s play of the second Test against Pakistan, in which the 37-year old, made public his decision to quit the longest format, ending weeks of speculation.
The stylish left-hander revealed that his intention was to leave all forms of cricket after the 2015 Cricket World Cup but had agreed to play four more Test matches at the behest of Sri Lanka’s previous selection committee.
