Hope alive for Pakistan as India qualify Rio

ANTWERP: Pakistan’s hopes of qualifying for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games turned into dreams after the 2-1 defeat against Great Britain in the quarter-final of the Hockey World League (HWL) in Antwerp, Belgium, on Wednesday.

Though, it was a heart-breaking defeat for Pakistani fans which shattered their hopes, but the dream can come true if Pakistan finish on 5th place.

Pakistan will now play Ireland in the 5-8 place classification matches; a good win against Ireland may make way for Shaheens to qualify in the mega event.

Pakistan captain Mohammad Imran said: “I think we put all of our efforts into it but we were unlucky we didn’t score with our chances, but we have other games and it is important that we try to finish fifth.”
