Six dead as earthquake hits China’s rular area

BEILING – An earthquake of 6.5 magnitude hits China’s rural part on Friday.

The government and Chinese state media claimed of killing of  at least six people, dozens of grot injured  and destroying or damaging thousands of homes.

The dead included a father and son, the government-run China National Emergency Broadcasting said on its website.

Earthquakes frequently strike China. A quake in the southwestern province of Sichuan in 2008 killed almost 70,000 people.

State news agency Xinhua put the number of injured at about 50.. However, there is possibility that death toll would increase as the rescue teams reached the sight and started operation.
