CHITTAGONG: Courtesy Soumya sarkar’s heroic, Bangladesh thrashes South Africa in third One Day International by 9 wickets to clinch their first ever series win over Protease at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Chittagong.
The rain-hit match was restricted to 40-overs-each-side.
Winning the toss, South Africa opted to bat first but could not make use of the batting-friendly pitch. South Africa were 4 down for 50 runs at a moment, when David Miller and Farhan Behardin’s 63-runs partnership give some support to the team.
However, visitors kept losing wickets at regular intervals and were only able to put 168/9 after 40 overs.
Bangladesh in reply were quick and threatening, the openers took a flying start and completed team’s century in just 16h over.
Openers Tamim Iqbal and Soumya Sarkar kept on coming stronger and stronger on to South African bowlers and kept playing shots freely. Thy seemed in committed to make history.
It was just 25th over when Bangladesh lost their first wicket on 154 when Soumya Sarkar, after playing a series-winning innings, chipped one Imran Taher’s half polly to Hashim Amla at short extra.
The hosts completed the series win in just 26.1 overs with 9 wickets in hand.
This was their biggest ODI victory over South Africa and of course the first ever series win too.
Solid Soumya Sarkar for his heroics was awarded man of the match and ,an of the series as well.
