Pakistan gets ODI series win over Sri Lanka after 9 years drought

Colombo: Shoaib Malik’s huge six over mid-wicket to seal the series 3-1 was also an end to a nine-year ODI series-win drought in Sri Lanka.

Yes! It was first time in 9 years that Pakistan have beaten Islanders on their home soil with such an ease.

It was 20015/06 when Pakistan under legend Inzimam-ul-Haq beat hosts a three-match series 2-0 with first match washed out by rain.

Since then, Pakistan has faced three consecutive series losses in Sri Lanka in 2009 (3-2), 2012 (3-1) and in 2014 (2-1).

Though young-blooded Pakistan ODI side left no stone unturned to clinch the series and to make way to the ICC Champions Trophy 2017, it was Misbah’s seasoned campaign in Test matches that led the foundation of such an emphatic victory in ODI series.

However, Pakistan had an edge as Sri Lanka were down with two legendary batsman and main pillars of the team Jayawardane and Sangakkara.

Confident-looking Pakistan will now be eyeing a last-match win to earn two valuable points for them.
