Sri Lanka beat Pakistan by 165 runs in 5th ODI

HAMBANTOTA: Pakistan crumbled while chasing a giant total of 369 against Sri Lanka in 5th ODI, lost the match by 165 runs.

Sri Lanka won the toss and chose to bat on what Angelo Mathews felt would be a decent batting surface. With the help of Kosul’s ton and Mathews’ quick fiftym, Sri Lanka scored 368 runs on 4 wickets in the match.

Sri Lankan openers Perera put up a solid first wicket partnership of 164, it came to an end when Dhilshan was run out on his 62, Parera went on to score his 2nd ODI ton, first against Pakistan. He scored 116 runs before he too was run out by Mohammad Irfan. While Mathews and Milinda Siriwardana scored 70 and 52 runs respectively. Pakistan conceded 119 runs in last 10 overs.

In reply, Pakistani openers took cautious start and once again put 50+ partnerships before Ahmed Shehzad lost balance and was stumped by Chandimal on 51.  In came Hafeez and kept the scoreboard ticking, on the total of 71, captain Azher Ali was run out by Mathews while trying to steal a run.

Hafeez played some delicious shots and brought Pakistan back on track, just when he was looking good, he missed an in-dipper from Mathews and was caught LBW on 116. He scored 37 (37) with 5 fours and one 6.

Pakistan kept losing wickets at a regular interval and were bundled out on 203 runs in just 37.2 overs.

It is pertinent to mention that this defeat will cloud their ICC Champions Trophy qualification chances as it has declined from Zimbabwe tour and tri-series.
