Profile of Mullah Omar: Life chapter of Taliban’s supreme leader comes to end

ISLAMABAD – Mullah Omar was the supreme commander of Afghan Taliban and now his life chapter was closed as Taliban announced the death of their supreme leader.

Full name of Mullah Omar is Mullah Mohammad Omar Mujhahid. He was born in a village in Kandahar Province in 1962. Mullah Omar was the Supreme commander of Taliban.

Mullah Omar was Afghanistan’s 11 head of state under the official title of “Head of the Supreme Council” from 1996 to late 2001.

He held the title of “Commander of the Faithful” (Amir al-Mu’minin )of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan. Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan was the state established by the Taliban in 1996.

Mullah Omar was the top most wanted person by the United States Department’s Rewards for the Justice program since October 2001.

U.S set USD 10 million bounty on Mullah Omar and declared him most wanted person for sheltering Osama Bin Laden and other al-Qaeda militants in the years prior to September 11 attacks.

U.S claimed that Mullah Omar started the insurgency movement against the United States armed forces.

Mullah Omar was very tall and at round 6 ft 6 and describe as shy and non-talkative with foreigners.
