New system will make theft impossible, claims K-Electric

KARACHI: K-Electric on Wednesday is reported to be in process of introducing new network of wires which will not only better electricity supply but will make power theft nearly impossible.

The company will be able to cut down power supply using smart grid system at any time. Power could be disconnected remotely in case of theft.

In 2014, the power supplying company saved at least Rs 4 billion by limiting transmission losses to 23.7 percent from earlier figure of 25.3 percent. Authorities said that the government owes at least Rs 103 billion to the company.

Whereas K-Electric has to pay Rs 54 billion to National Transmission and Dispatch Company (NTDC) and Sui Northern companies.

The K-Electric officials said that projects which would add at least 1,200 Megawatt (MW) power to the grid are in process of completion.
