SHARJAH: After a neck-to-neck fight, Peshawar Zalmi beat Karachi Kings by 3 runs in a nail-biting thriller at Sharjah Cricket Stadium, UAE.
After winning the toss, Zalmi skipper Shahid Khan Afridi decided to bat first and his openers proved it right decision, specially Mohamamd Hafeez.
He scored 59 of just 35 balls before being unfortunate to be wrongly given LBW on Bopara’s slower ball.
Sammy (18*) , Afridi (17*) and Kamran Akmal (30) made their little contributions to take the score to 183-4 in 20 overs.
Karachi Kings in reply were totally off color as half of their team went back to pavilion on the total of 48 runs in 9th over.
One down batsman Vince (44) and all-rounder Ravi Bopara (43) batted brilliantly to take the game so close.
The game took a 180 degree turn when bowler like Shaun Tait gave away 26 runs in 18th over.
Karachi Kings were very much in the game after this, but another swing of the table came when Wahab Riaz bowled a brilliant over giving away just 3 runs on first four balls, the game turned Kings way once again with 2nd last ball six from Sohail Tanvir, and then another turn as Wahab clean bowled Tanvir with a brilliant in-swinging yorker.
Kings now needed 13 of the last over, with hearts in the mouth.
The last over was bowled by Sammy, first ball SIX, 2nd ball—double, and then a low bouncer and Bopara get caught on lon-on… The Game was still on with Kings requiring 5 of last three balls.
The thrill of the match was at its peak when Usama Mir got run out on second last ball of the game while trying to steal a single.
Karachi Kings were still 4 runs short with last wicket standing.
