PERTH: Heavy downpour coupled with thunderstorms lashed Fremantle’s business district in Perth, turning it into a swimming pool.
Along with the downpour in Fremantle some areas of Perth were hit by hail, including Carine in the city’s north.
One of the hardest hit suburbs was Swanbourne which recorded 28.8mm, while Kings Park near Perth saw 36.2mm.
Bureau of Meteorology senior forecaster Pete Clegg said the Swanbourne gauge recorded more than 20mm from 11-11.30am which was “conducive to localised flash flooding”.
The drenching started in the early afternoon with motorists struggling to see 50 metres in front of them on inner city roads.
Twitter user Melley Dee posted her weather woes to followers on Monday evening.
”Got caught in a hailstorm today while driving and legit could not see in front or behind me.”
The Department of Fire and Emergency Services said SES volunteers had received 14 call-outs for help from across the metro region for leaking roofs
